Scale : Skirmish.
Government Deployment : The Government troops were attempting to engage the Rebels and arrive on the battlefield in march-column in North St, at the bottom of the hill. The order of march must be specified before hand.
Rebel Deployment : Monmouth decided to stand and face the approaching Royal Army. The Rebel troops lined the hedges along North St and barricaded the route into the village.
Special Rules : The Government troops confident of victory must remain on North St in march-column until fired on by the Rebels.
Outcome : The King’s soldiers struggled up the hill and attempted to storm the barricade but received heavy fire from the Rebels lining the hedges. The struggle lasted over six hours but the King’s men were forced to withdraw having suffered eighty casualties and after Monmouth led an attack against their flank.
